Everyday maths calculator

Tip Calculator

Work out a tip, split the bill between people and see the total per person. Useful for restaurants, taxis, deliveries and shared bills.

Calculate a tip and split the bill

Enter the bill, choose a tip percentage and the number of people sharing the cost.

Total before tip.
For example, 10, 12.5 or 15.
Use 1 if you are not splitting the bill.
Optional, useful when paying cash or splitting simply.
£88.00 total
That includes an £8.00 tip on an £80.00 bill.
Tip amount£8.00
Total per person£44.00
Tip per person£4.00
Formula: £80.00 × 10% = £8.00 tip.
Tipping is optional and customs vary by place, service and situation. This calculator only helps with the maths.

How the tip calculator works

The calculator multiplies the bill amount by the tip percentage, adds the tip to the original bill, then divides the total by the number of people.

tip = bill × tip percentage ÷ 100 total = bill + tip per person = total ÷ number of people

For a bill of £80 with a 10% tip, the tip is £8 and the total is £88. Split between two people, that is £44 each.

How rounding affects the split

Rounding can make a shared bill easier, but it changes the effective tip slightly. If you round the total up, everyone pays a share of the rounded total. If you round the per-person amount up, the total collected may be a little higher than the exact bill plus tip.

Tip calculator FAQs

How do I calculate a 10% tip?

Move one decimal place left. For example, 10% of £80 is £8.

How do I split a tip between people?

Calculate the tip first, add it to the bill, then divide the total by the number of people.

Can I use this as a bill splitter?

Yes. Set the tip to 0% if you only want to split the original bill.
