Create a countdown

Choose an event date and time to see a live countdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds.

Optional, but useful if you copy the result text.
Use the date picker to avoid date-format confusion.
Leave as midnight or set a specific event time.
The selected time is treated as local to this zone.
This only affects the formatted event time shown below.
Time zone note: the calculator uses your browser's time and the selected IANA time zone. For legal deadlines, travel bookings or employment deadlines, confirm the official time separately.

The countdown updates every second while the page is open.
Logic: the calculator converts your selected event time into one instant, compares it with the current time, then breaks the difference into days, hours, minutes and seconds.

How the countdown timer works

The countdown timer calculates the difference between the current time and your selected event date and time. The result is then split into whole days, remaining hours, remaining minutes and remaining seconds.

For example, a deadline tomorrow at 09:00 may show less than 24 hours remaining depending on the current time. A date far in the future may show hundreds of days remaining, plus the live hours, minutes and seconds within the current day.

Countdown formula

remaining time = event date/time - current date/time days = whole remaining days hours = remaining hours after full days minutes = remaining minutes after full hours seconds = remaining seconds after full minutes

This page uses JavaScript in your browser, so the countdown is live while the page is open. If the selected event time has already passed, the calculator shows that the event has passed instead of counting down.

Countdowns and time zones

If you choose a time zone, the event time is treated as local to that zone. For example, 09:00 in London and 09:00 in New York are not the same instant. This matters for webinars, launches, international meetings and online events.

UK users should also remember that London switches between GMT and British Summer Time depending on the date. The calculator uses the selected time zone rules supported by the browser, but official deadlines should still be checked against the source that issued them.
